Dominated by the remains (stretches of wall and a square tower) of the castle which dates back from the 1200s.
Novi Ligure is a town rich in Ligurian characteristics, in the dialect, cooking and architecture. The facade of noble and wealthy Ligurian homes are often painted, resulting in Novi often being referred to as the “painted town” - The “fiera di cambio” ancient exchange market took place in Novi 1626 - there are fake architectural elements, historical and mythological figures painted on to the outside walls of the buildings. It is fascinating to see the various artistic periods and also elaborate floral decorations from the 1800s which form an open air art gallery along the facade of the Negrone-Costa, Cambiaso-Negrotto, Bianchi and Brignole buildings.
